What is networking?
Network: A network is a group of two or more computers or other electronic
devices. They are interconnected for the purpose of exchanging the data and
sharing the resources either by a cable or a wireless connection.
Today’s networks tend to be a bit more
complex and don’t just consist of two computers. A system with more than 10
participants usually use client-server
networks. In these computers, one will act as a server and the remaining will act as a client. In these networks, a central computer (server) provides
resources to the participants in the network (clients).
Types of the network:
1. Peer-to-peer network: The simplest network is a
combination of two computers connected by a wire.
2. Client-server network: It is the medium through which
clients access resources and services from the main computer (server) via either
Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide
Area Network (WAN).
How
does a network work?
In a client-server network, there is a central
device called a server. The server is
connected to the remaining devices, which are called clients. This connection is wired or wireless.
Networks
are divided based on the range of area.
Networks
are classified in 4 categories:
Personal Area Network (PAN): PAN is used for interconnecting
the devices within a room. Example Wi-Fi.
Local Area Network (LAN): LAN is used for
interconnecting the devices within a building or a company.
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN): This network is used to
connect within a city.
Wide Area Network (WAN): This network is used in
the range of nationwide.
Global Area Network (GAN): This Network range is
worldwide. Like as internet. So, if you are connected to the internet,
simultaneously it will act as a WAN or
GAN.
